Mealtime Prayer
Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat,
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you, God, for everything.

Preschool
Care
General Information
The Preschool Program is available for children 3-5
years old. The children are introduced to learning centers, such as art, small
and large muscle, dramatic play, blocks and language. The children learn to make
choices and to experiment with new things. They learn to share and take turns.
The dominant sound you'll hear in our preschool is the laughter and happiness of
children.
Spiritual Development is encouraged through the
introduction of Celebration and regular use of
a prayer before meals and snacks.
As the children mature, even more emphasis is placed
on language development, printing, pre-science and early math. Cooperation and
group interaction are also emphasized. These activities help our children
prepare for Kindergarten.
Kindergarten Preparation
We work
closely with area schools, including Lancaster, Depew and Cheektowaga to ensure
our curriculum will give children the tools they need to meet kindergarten
readiness exams.
Nutrition
Our “Nutrition
Mission” is to encourage healthy, nutritious habits that can be carried
throughout life. Our menu includes homemade casseroles and soups, freshly
prepared pizzas and salads, muffins and pancakes. All food is prepared daily by
our own Food Service Department.
All children are provided a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and afternoon
snack. Menus are posted every week.
Our Food Service Department can meet
most special dietary instructions requested
by a physician with a written statement of instructions from the physician
on file.
Children who arrive before 7:30 a.m. are allowed to
bring in a healthy snack before breakfast. All other food will be provided by
Lord of Life at meal time.
Field Trips
During the year educational field trips are planned
for the children. The Child Development Center van can only transport nine
children and two staff persons; therefore, children participate on a rotating
basis.
Parents are asked to give written permission for
their child to attend a field trip.
Parents must pay any nominal fees before the
date of the trip. Fees are collected by the receptionist.
Some of our field trips include:
Buffalo Zoological Gardens Lancaster Opera House
Julia Boyer Reinstein Library
Aquarium of Niagara
Explore & More Children's Museum
U.S. Post Office
Area
Parks Charles E Burchfield Nature & Art Center
Area growers/farms
Outside Play
Weather permitting, children will be taken outdoors
daily. Our Preschoolers go for walks in the quiet neighborhood
surrounding Lord of Life; play games and read stories on our Boardwalk; and
utilize the large fenced-in playground. We encourage children to be prepared for outdoor activities on a
daily basis (including hats, mittens, and boots).
Assessments
Periodically, the teachers will be evaluating your child’s progress using a
standardized assessment tool. The assessment tool is used for a variety of
reasons including:
- Individual lesson planning- to keep your child learning at their pace.
- Tracking areas of concern- The Teacher will schedule a meeting with the
parent if she is concerned about a child’s progress in any assessed
area.
