Welcome to the season of Advent and Happy New Year! Yes, Advent is the first season of the church year. There are six seasons – Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. As with the beginning of a new calendar year, this is a time to reflect on where we have been and then to look forward to the new beginnings and opportunities to learn and grow in the next year.
The rhythm of the church year invites us into a deeper walk with God and with our neighbors. I invite you to take a moment to reflect on this past year and to look forward to this next year as it begins to unfold. What did you see God doing last year – in your personal life, family, work, community, church, other? What did you learn about God this year? Where do you see God moving as you begin a new year? How have you been a part of what God is doing? How would you like to be a part of what God is doing? How are you practicing and how would you like to practice the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible reading, generosity, serving, worship, and building relationships?
My prayer as we begin this new church year is that you will find ways to:
· Acknowledge your weariness and your joys.
· Experience the joy of connecting with God and with others.
· Be amazed by God’s immense love and creation.
· Sing songs of hope
· Make room for God and for each other.
· Trust that you are a beloved child of God!
Please read through this newsletter for ways to connect with God and others!
